• Pros: Huge feature set, highly tested in academia.
• Cons: The UI is dense and can be overwhelming for simple one-off extractions. Mobile support is poor.
• When to use them: If you need polar coordinate extraction or advanced algorithmic auto-tracing and don't mind a steep learning curve.

2. Engauge Digitizer

A native desktop application for OS X, Windows, and Linux.

• Pros: Excellent point matching and grid removal. Completely offline.
• Cons: Requires installation. The interface looks like it was built in 1995 (because it was).
• When to use them: When you have strict IT policies preventing browser-based tool usage.

3. AI/LLM Vision Models (ChatGPT/Claude)

People increasingly try to upload images to LLMs and ask "extract this data to a table".

• Pros: Zero learning curve.
• Cons: They hallucinate violently. LLMs are generative, not deterministic. They will invent data points that look statistically plausible but are entirely wrong.
